Camping vs Motel vs Any other options...
I'm coming over from NZ. Is there anywhere to buy a cheap tent and airbed or something in Joshua Tree or around there so I can just stay on site? Would only have it for these few days and then throw it or give it away before I fly home. Or is it easy enough to get from venue to some accom. each night in Joshua Tree or Twentynine Palms after the show (Uber or taxi etc.).

There are a few places in Joshua Tree to get a tent etc. your best bet is to book a spot at the campground. Its attached to the festival grounds and you can just walk to the event. Its a 2 min walk.
